amnesiack: (kitaguchi)
Around 2pm this afternoon, I received an email to stop by my supervisor's supervisor's office. Brenda is a super cool woman; she's funny, amiable, competent and intelligent. Still, any call into the Big Boss's office is a bit nerve-wracking. But, it turns out, I was to be given good news. First off, I was given the offer to move from temp to regular employment (which I accepted), accompanied by a $1/hour raise retroactive to the 1st of this month. Second, I was told that I had the option (which I also accepted) of entering the Specialist II training on April 18th. After the training is complete, if I pass my practicum for the position, I will be given an additional $1/hour raise as a Spec II.

There are only two downsides to this of which I am aware. The first is that, due to the diminishing amount of Spec I-only work remaining, I will be working from 6am-Noon next week, rather than my normal 9-5:30. While I don't mind having the afternoons off, getting up in time to get down there by 6 will be killer, and the loss of hours for the week isn't great either. It will be for only a week, and then I will start my Spec II training, so it's not too big a deal. The other downside is that for all those Spec I's who were not given the full employee option, today was their last day. None of us had any inkling of this in advance. I don't begrudge management this, and I have to admit I think their judgments on who stayed and who went were sound (even taking myself completely out of the picture). Still, it's going to be weird coming in tomorrow and not seeing a number of faces that I've become very well acquainted with over the last two months.

Overall, though, this is all great news and a terrific load off my shoulders. Now I am tired. To the sleeping.
