I'm going to talk about Serenity some more, okay? Specifically, I'm going to talk about the soundtrack.

I enjoyed the music in the movie; it did a great job of enhancing and punctuating certain scenes without ever being overbearing. I have a particular fondness for faux-Irish music as well, so several of the pieces that fell in that category were particularly delightful to me. Overall, though, I had little interest in buying the soundtrack, as movie scores (even really good ones) can rarely hold my interest for long.

Then I saw the movie a second time. At the end of this second viewing, Jason and I sat quietly through the closing credits, not talking, merely basking in the glow of what we had witnessed. The credits begin with a reprise of one of the earlier pieces in the movie, the faux-Irish one I mentioned earlier, with some variations. It lasts around a minute-and-a-half. Then, another piece begins, and it is familiar. It took me a few moments to realize what I was hearing, and then I turned to Jason and said, "Is that...?", and he nodded.

It was an instrumental version of "The Ballad of Serenity," the original Firefly opening song that I had ached to hear throughout the movie, and it was glorious.

So, all this is to say that, based solely on this realization, I bought the soundtrack on Monday. And you know what? IT'S NOT ON THE FREAKING SOUNDTRACK ALBUM ANYWHERE! They're just toying with my emotions in every way they possibly can. I can't express enough how disappointed I am by this. I think I might just die.

Cheers.
